Guitar and violin duo
Dolce Aspro translating to ‘Sweet and Sour’ is an Auckland based classical guitar and violin duo. Their friendship and similar passion for romantic, classical, and gypsy-style music led to the formation of the group two years ago.
Lora Kurusa was born and raised in Hungary and she started her classical guitar journey at the age of 12 in Australia. Lora received her first scholarship at the age of 15 to study classical guitar at the Elder Conservatorium's Open Music Academy, and has been awarded multiple project based scholarships to attend guitar festivals overseas. Lora was also the recipient of the 2020 Biennial New Zealand International Classical Guitar Competition (youth section) and she is currently completing her Bachelor of Classical Guitar Performance degree at Auckland School of Music.
Darren Breeze started to take the violin seriously at age 11, in which he obtained a private sponsorship to accommodate his studies for seven years. He has studied with New Zealand's most acclaimed and respected professors and is currently under the direction of Mark Bennett. He has won a number of competitions and awards over the years, and has worked with New Zealand's National Youth Orchestra, Auckland Youth Orchestra and Manukau Symphony and Darren is currently the concertmaster of the 'New Classical Symphonia' Orchestra. Darren plans to further his postgraduate studies in a prestigious university overseas.
