DRAWN, 1975 - 2015 is an exhibition of drawings by Martin Ball selected from the Arts Trust Collection and the artist's private collection.
Along with Ball's large scale portrait paintings, he is also well known for his drawing practice. This exhibition offers a concise retrospective of his graphic work. His early exhibitions concentrated on drawing alone and it wasn't until later in his career that he began painting. Drawing has always been a constant part of his practice.
The exhibition shows the various phases of Ball's drawing work from the early 'Pop' drawings of the 1970s, to the more recent portraits of colleagues and the current 'paper' series. Martin Ball's drawings have featured in a number of Gallery and Museum exhibitions, including Thirty-nine Drawings; Ten New Zealand Artists at Auckland Art Gallery in 1977, Real Vision at McDougal Gallery, Christchurch in 1994, and Architecture of the Heart at MTG Hawkes Bay in 2013.
