Spark Centre of Creative Development: Hush and Hum
9 June, 2015 - 19 July, 2015
Little Gallery

Hush and Hum presents a selection of recent artworks from Spark Centre artists which contain different approaches to narrative and story telling. With each work, the motive and method for constructing a narrative is diverse, inspired by personal histories, passions, an abstracted thought or emotion.

Over time and under the guidance of Spark Centre arts facilitators, each artist has explored and examined the world around them. They have made sense of their reality, either cognitively or intuitively, and through their sensory perceptions. The artist has developed their own unique expressive visual language and established a particular style of working.

Spark Centre is an inclusive, creative space based in St Lukes, Auckland, that provides visual arts, dance-movement, and art therapy programmes for people living with disability and diversity. Spark Centre delivers a professional service in person-centred, visual arts learning and creative therapies; the work is a unique synthesis of arts practice and self development.  An important aspect of the Centre’s objectives is to establish exhibition opportunities for the artists, seeking to promote and advocate for artists living with diversity.

The visual arts programmes deliver an in-depth, experiential learning process orientated to the requirements, competencies and circumstances of the artists. The work provides a vehicle for self-development and wellbeing through creative expression; builds companionship and social community; and offers involvement in meaningful and purposeful activity.  The development of individual arts practice is supported – Spark Centre provides regular opportunities to showcase artists work in the public arena at a number of public spaces and community galleries throughout Auckland (including Pah Homestead, Studio One - formerly Artstation, Corban Estate Art Centre, Mairangi Arts Centre, Bruce Mason Centre).

Spark Centre is an independent organisation, administered by Panacea Arts Charitable Trust and funded by sponsorships, grants and programme fees.
