Meet Mona Hums, an indie folk singer-songwriter based in West Auckland. Active in community music clubs, she performs at events and open mics with friends from the Hobsonville Music Club.
Last year, she released her debut single, "When Darkness Comes," and is now working on her first EP. At Music at Midday, she will showcase original songs and reimagined acoustic versions of old favourites, joined by the multi-talented Andy T. on lead guitar.
Mona's musical journey began as a teenager in musical theatre, and she soon took up the acoustic guitar. After a longer hiatus, the Covid-19 lockdowns reignited her passion for songwriting. Having grown up with the songs of Tracy Chapman, Sinead O’Connor, Sting, and Johnny Cash, her music has a focus on storytelling. Set to moving melodies, her lyrics explore personal experiences and themes of family, friendship, love, and mental health.
Music at Midday returns to Pah Homestead with an hour of free live music from 12 to 1pm each Saturday.
Auckland is rich with a diverse range of creative musical talent and we celebrate this every week. Sit down in the drawing room to enjoy the live music, or peruse the galleries while you listen to the music drifting through the building.
