Take Two
30 April, 2013 - 2 June, 2013
Photography Gallery
This exhibition features paired photographic images. The pairing has been achieved either by an artist who has drawn two images together to form one work, or by the curatorial selection and pairing of two separate works from the same series. When paired, the images invite the viewer to compare and contrast between them. While some images seem to speak to each other as though in conversation, others create a narrative to be read from left to right. Though some of the exhibited works are contemporary in style, several look back to photography's rich history for inspiration.
The exhibition brings to attention the common artistic practice of producing work in series and highlights the range of photographic methods that are still practiced by New Zealand artists today. Alongside digital photography, cibracrome, stereoview tintype, photo etching, and selenium toned prints are exhibited.
