Wellington based photographer Paul Redican exhibits a series of colour images exploring the urban environment and its inhabitants. These works are based mainly on a project undertaken by Redican in Hong Kong in 2006 and 2007. Redican was inspired by one of the world’s most densely populated urban centers and found it a rich environment to focus on both the physical public spaces and the inhabitants of the region.

‘I have always had a fascination with the aesthetic of large scale urban developments and building projects, I think this may stem from growing up with a father who was an industrial photographer during the Think Big era of large scale construction in the 70s and 80s. I find myself drawn to making images that look at scale and place. Many of these urban spaces with their rigid repetition of form and uniformity of structure contrast greatly with the variety of people that inhabit them.’
