3 November – 28 February 2022 (extended)
Online Exhibition

A multiplicity of voices celebrates the perspectives of our Pasifika artists at Māpura.

There is a Samoan proverb, Lupe sa vao eseese a ua fuifui faatasi, when translated means, birds from all different forests are now all together. Lupe is a common Pasifika female name, and females have the creative force of giving birth to others. We artists are fruitful in our artwork, spiritually, physically and mentally. We come together in giving thanks to our creator, to each other and to our progress as Pacific Island artists. Who knew our artwork was our talent, who knew we were this great? Our artwork is an expression of joy!

“The artists who have been brought together in the exhibition represent a multiplicity: a diversity of background, and a range of life experience and disability. Their creative expression is their voices.”

— Vic Segedin

Māpura Studios, based in Tāmaki Makaurau, is a creative space that provides programmes and activities in visual arts practice, creative expression, dance-movement, music and art therapy for people living with disability and diversity.

In their visual art programmes, participants learn about media, techniques and elements of art making through individual and group tuition. They are supported to explore and experiment, and to develop new ways of thinking and perceiving through the ‘making’ process and introduced to elements of contemporary arts practice.

Māpura Studios was originally founded in 2000, as Spark Centre of Creative Development.
This year marks seven years of the annual exhibition at Pah Homestead.
