John Miller: Protest
18 September — 11 November, 2018
Photography Gallery
Exhibition opening: Monday 17 September, 6pm
John Miller (b.1950, Ngāpuhi, Ngaitewake-ki-uta) is renowned for his photographs of Māoritanga and political moments in recent New Zealand history. The exhibition Protest traces back to the early stage of John Miller's photographic career. From the years 1967-1972 he began to document Vietnam War protests in Auckland and other city centres as a young student (secondary and university); and as the photographer for Auckland University's student weekly magazine Craccum. The fourteen photographs in Protest capture a vital moment in time, a history of uprising. We see various protest groups in Auckland as the city was also developing, becoming the metropolis it is today.
