If These Walls Could Talk

If These Walls Could Talk
11 November, 2014 - 23 November, 2014
AV Gallery

Created and produced by Ross Liew (Cut Collective), If These Walls Could Talk features five short films focusing on the work of prominent street artists: Askew One, Benjamin Work, Mica Still, Elliot Stewart and BMD.

The films document a collection of narratives regarding not only the concept of street art, but contextualizing the positive benefits the artists can have on communities, engaging in these works in an innovative and encouraging manner; cultivating public experiences as they contribute to our public spaces. The artists share their stories, what compels them to paint outside, what drives them artistically and how they navigate identity, community, ownership and the creative process.

The films also feature an abundance of musical talent including the music of six producers and beat-makers including Samuel Truth, Miso Shiru and Jay Knight.

If These Walls Could Talk was born from discussions regarding a higher level of critical engagement with street art in New Zealand, developing both a professional legitimacy and credibility within the field and educating an increasingly interested and literate audience.

If These Walls Could Talk is not only an education into the world of street art, but also an introduction into viewing our streets in a way we may not be familiar with.

Join creator Ross Liew for an in depth look into the production of the series on Saturday 15 November at 11.30am.  Ross will be discussing each of the films and sharing insights into each of the artists featured.
