Glassworks from the Collection
3 July, 2013 - 18 August, 2013
Long Gallery
Over several decades, the Arts Trust has collected glass works by many different practitioners. Several of the artists in this exhibition are highly regarded in their use of glass, while others are better known for their work in other mediums such as painting. The key figure in this exhibition is Garry Nash ONZM, an artist with an international reputation as a specialist in the field of glass making. Glassworks from the Collection functions as a pre-cursor to Garry Nash’s solo exhibition, Neon Sign, which will be on display at the Pah Homestead from 30 July.
Both exhibitions highlight different facets of Nash’s practice. Glassworks from the Collection includes examples of Nash’s domestic vessels: vases, orbs and bowls intended for home usage or display. In contrast the forthcoming Neon Sign exhibition will feature sculptural light works . Other well-known glass artists in Glassworks from the Collection include Ann Robinson ONZM, and Stephen Bradbourne, who trained and worked under Nash. Artists represented who are well known in other fields include sculptor Regan Gentry and painter Patrick Hanly (1932-2004), whose stained glass window work features in the exhibition.
