closed circle is a video and sculpture exhibition by Niamh Maher, examining how individual identity is closely associated with our production of knowledge. Academic advancements cannot be separated from culture; humanity and personhood persist in all knowledge. Niamh invites us to question the nature of objective truth by illustrating the closed environments in which knowledge is often passed around and the cultural distance in which knowledge is often presented.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Niamh Maher (b. 2001) is a Pakeha/Irish multi-media artist from Tāmaki Makaurau, primarily working in textile, ceramic, and illustration. Employing a feminist lens, she frequents domestic terrain in the materiality of her work, encasing philosophical consideration and concern into objects which may at first appear unassuming. With a background in Psychology, she addresses concern for the self with the suggestion of an internal partnership which furthers the intimacy of all entities, conceivable or not.
